March 7th, 2020- Fleet Feet of Decatur celebrated their new expansion with a Re-Grand opening and a customer appreciation night. Customers were able to explore the stores’ new layout, talk with shoe and product reps from Brooks Running, Balega International, and others. The re-grand opening also included drinks from local breweries and Papa Murphy’s pizza.
March 6th, 2020- Students in Richland’s Humanities 112: Leading Through the Humanities class organized the first-ever “High School Challenge,” where seven local high schools competed in a series of challenges for the chance to win 1000 dollars that will go towards benefiting their High Schools. As part of this challenge, students are gaining hands-on educational experience and practical leadership skills in addition to what they are learning in the classroom. Below the video is a list of names of the participating students and their high schools. Each team has chosen how they would like to use the funds they win.
Clinton High School

Use of Funds Won: We would spend the money to host community-building events to help foster a positive climate in our school.
Use of Funds Won: The funds will be used for our St. Teresa Key Club.
Eisenhower High School

Use of Funds Won: We will use the possible winnings for SAT incentives.

Decatur Christian High School

Use of Funds Won: Our project target is to increase the practicality and beauty of our school with the students painting certain spaces and installing some coat racks, hooks, and even developing seating areas.

Argenta High School

February 29th, 2020- The Boys & Girls Club of Decatur held its Annual Alumni Basketball game where alumni dating back from the past ten years went head to head in the BGC All-Star Game. This year the event also doubled as a fundraiser to help raise proceeds towards the Boys & Girls Club 2020 Summer Programs.
February 26th, 2020- Millikin University’s School of Education hostedits 8th Annual Interview Boot Camp. The day long camp takes students through a series of mock interviews with Millikin alumni who are currently serving as superintendents and principals or representing school districts throughout Illinois and Indiana. The camp allows a chance for students to get a taste of what they should expect in actual interviews setting while providing feedback and suggestions regarding interview skills at the same time.
February 25th, 2020-Crossing Healthcare Mobile Unit is now up and rolling and ready to serve schools and students at DPS61. The Mobile Unit provides students and their families a convenient way to help fulfill their healthcare needs. The unit’sservices include physicals, vaccinations, health screenings, treatment of minor illnesses and injuries, health education and promotion, nutrition counseling, behavioral health counseling, and dental exams.
February 10th, 2020- Tate & Lyle opened its company’s doors to the members of the Young Leaders in Action philanthropy group. A program made up of students from 11 different high schools here in Macon County. The program provides a VIP experience for students as they learn first-hand about family philanthropy and the generous companies that founded our community.
February 9, 2020 – Decatur Memorial Hospital hosted “Hearts Around The World”, a culinary event to benefit the DMH Heart and Lung Institute. This year, the event also featured a heated cooking competition between DMH Chef, Jerry Tkac and DMH President and CEO, Drew Early! Watch the video now!
