June 30th, 2020- – MRI has been selected to receive a $25,000 grant from the America in Bloom (AIB) and Canadian National Railroad (CN) “From the Ground Up” grant program. The grant will support landscaping throughout the 1.5-acre center that provides educational and occupational opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities in the community. Meaningful Meadows features 48 trees and 500 plants and flowers. The AIB/CN “From the Ground Up” grant program supports collaborative community greening projects that enhance landscapes in communities neighboring CN rail lines. March 5th, 2020- MRI welcomed the community into their doors to help celebrate the Spread the Word: Inclusion Campaign. Spread the Word: Inclusion is a national campaign started by the Special Olympics and Best Buddies that aims to create a new reality: inclusion for all people with developmental disabilities. Residence got to enjoy several activities, including BINGO, Karaoke, Arts and Crafts, Minute to win it games, and more.

March 1st, 2020- The Cub Scouts of Pack 9999 held its 4th annual Pinewood Derby. Scouts and their families, along with some special friends from the Salvation Army, all gathered at the Mound Chapel Church of God to race their Derby Cars. Scouts spent months creating and building their model cars, making sure they were competition ready. All of the proceeds of the event went towards supplies for Pack 9999 ‘s Cub Scout Camping Trip. February 29th, 2020- The six grade students at French STEM Academy brought history to life in their Black History Month Live Wax Museum. Students dressed up as historical or influential African Americans throughout history and gave brief reports on the lives of whoever they chose to represent. January 11th, 2020- Gallery 510 Art & Framing presents the Young Artists” Showcase, an exhibition of artwork by 5th and 8th graders from around the local area. Over 300 submissions were reviewed for this showcase and only 117 creations have qualified to the final round. Where their artwork got to remain on exhibit for the entire month, at the Decatur Area Arts Council.
