August 21, 2020 – The National Safety Council predicted that COVID-19 will most likely be the third leading cause of death for the year 2020.  The pandemic’s death toll has exceeded 170,000.  Only heart disease and cancer have been responsible for more deaths so far this year.

Illinois has seen almost 8,000 deaths related to COVID, with almost 7,000 of those being 60 years of age or older.  Over half of the deaths statewide have taken place in long-term care facilities.  The third leading cause of death in America since 2016 has been preventable deaths, which include motor vehicle crashes, overdoses, and falls.
