Macon County Vote by Mail Information

By Michelle Mitchell Aug 5, 2020 | 7:54 PM

Vote by mail applications were mailed out last Friday to everyone who participated in the last three elections in Macon County.  Applications are in the form of a postcard, and there are two options listed for voters. Voters can go to il-macon.ballotrequest.net to fill out the application or simply fold over the postcard and mail it back.  Macon County has received over 1,500 requests for a vote by mail ballot so far.

Ballots will be mailed out on the first day for early voting – September 24th.  Should a voter request a ballot, they can mail it back or return it in-person to Macon County Office Building at 141 S Main St, Decatur.  Return postage will cost $1.20 and must be paid by the voter.  Mail-in ballots need to be postmarked by election day and they have two weeks to arrive to the office.  There is not a dropbox for ballots, so voters must take them into the office, Room 119 during office hours.

Mail-ins are reviewed by three election judges every other day.  If they are approved, they will be tabulated and stored in the vault.  If the judges do not approve the application, the ballot will be held and the voter will be notified.
