Supplemental Outreach Initiatives

  1. Richland Community College Career Fair

High School Career Fair- January 8-10, 2020 – Decatur participated in a Career Fair program for students from area schools at Richland Community College. Students met with members of our staff who provided information about all facets of the broadcast and digital operations. Students were also informed about part-time and full-time positions within our company

  1. Internship Program

Our internship program is available to high school or college students with a specific interest in broadcasting.  The 2019-2020 program featured 1 participant including students from Millikin University. The student participated in marketing roles, active in promotional support and working directly with the website in video and audio production.

  1. Richland Community College – Business Class

The VP – General Manager presented to the business Class on September 25th, 2019. General discussion with the class on career paths, local media, and community efforts

  1. Decatur Luther Schools –Summer Career Tour

Neuhoff Media-Decatur staff participated in our annual series of instructional             tour to students of Decatur Christian School. On Thursday, February 6th, 2020 a student group visited the radio station.  They learned about careers currently available in the broadcast industry and future opportunities related to technology and innovation.

  1. University of Indianapolis – Broadcast Student Interview Program

On April 27th, 2020, Neuhoff Media COO Mike Hulvey conducted one-on-one interviews with broadcast students at the University of Indianapolis.  The students were informed of the opportunities that were available within the industry in general, at all the Neuhoff facilities specifically related to their field of study.  These students included news, sports, video, music and writing related interests. There were ten students participating in the program.

  1. University Student Mentoring Program – Radio Show Job Fair

On September 26th, 2019, Neuhoff Media COO Mike Hulvey gathered a group of 15 college and university students for an extended mentoring session.  The program was designed to provide the students real examples of how they might fast start their careers.  The exchange included opportunities for the students to connect with broadcasters in their area, Mike provided specific information about those contacts.  He reviewed opportunities for future employment within Neuhoff while encouraging the students in ways they might use their remaining time in school to ready for actual jobs available in the workforce.

  1. Radio Show National Broadcast Student Forum

On September 24th, 2019, Neuhoff Media COO Mike Hulvey spoke to a group of over 100 college and university students at the National Radio Show in Dallas Texas.  The students were told of opportunities in the field of broadcasting, Mike highlighted specific jobs within Neuhoff Media and fielded questions from the group.  This program is connected to the RAB/NAB Student Scholar Program which provides educational opportunities to students around the country.

  1. Illinois Broadcasters Job Board

Neuhoff Media- Decatur routinely lists each upper-level opening in a job bank or newsletter of a media trade group with a broad-based membership, including participation of women and minorities, such as the Illinois Broadcasters Association.

  1. Bright Girls Bright Futures Event

On November 16th, 2019, VP-General Manager Kathy Byerly spoke to a group of Jr. High and High School young women. General discussion with the class on career paths, local media, and community efforts.
