Ameren Illinois has allocated $8 million for the “Fresh Start” program to assist qualified residential customers in reducing or eliminating their past-due account balance.  Customers struggling to pay their energy bills due to COVID-19 will be eligible for up to $700 in assistance.  The program opened on July 9th, with almost 5,000 customers in Illinois receiving assistance.

“This has been a very difficult stretch for many of our customers,” said Richard J. Mark, Chairman and President of Ameren Illinois.  “While we’re seeing some indications that the economy is improving and people are getting back to work, the need for assistance remains high. We’re glad to be in a position to provide additional financial support and offer a fresh start for customers who are most in need.”

The purpose of the Fresh Start program is to assist customers most impacted by COVID-19.  Income-qualified customers of Ameren Illinois who have past-due account balances may be eligible to receive funding.  Income guidelines are based on family size.
