December 3, 2019 – The 18th Annual WSOY Community Food Drive, held on October 4th of 2019 was another record-breaking success, raising over 1,700,000 pounds of food to benefit food pantries in our community. Today we are proud to present cash awards to the winning schools that raised the most food and monetary donations during the 18th Annual WSOY Community Food Drive.
Area schools once again rallied to raise pounds and funds to help the needy in our community. Thanks to our generous community partners; ADM, First Mid Bank and Trust & J.L. Hubbard Insurance and Bonds, a First Mid Insurance Group, Skeff Distributing, Jones & Thomas/JTnet, Decatur Back & Neck Center, Tickets N Trips, First Christian Church, Dale’s Southlake Pharmacy & Colee’s Corner Drugs, DynaGraphics, Kroger, Herald & Review, WAND-TV and the United Way, we are once again presenting the top five schools with cash awards for raising the most food and cash donations for the drive.

Thanks to a 10-year partnership with Decatur Public Schools, Tate & Lyle also presented the top 5 Decatur Public School’s that raised the most food and monetary donations with a $500 gift card.

The WSOY Community Food Drive would like to extend a special thank you to the United Way of Decatur and Mid Illinois for continuing to provide and coordinate our volunteer base and for their essential help in processing tax deductible donations.
In addition, we would like to thank the Howard G. Buffett Foundation for a $100,000 matching gift and ADM and Kroger for their generous corporate sponsorship. Our biggest thank you is reserved for the Decatur community for their continued support and compassion to help families in need. Because of that compassion, $500,000 will be awarded in grants to our community food pantries. Thanks to a new partnership with the Central Illinois Food Bank, those dollars will be stretched even further.
The WSOY Community Food Drive is pleased to announce that grants will be awarded to the following agencies at the end of December: Catholic Charities Food Pantry, The Salvation Army Food Pantry, Good Samaritan Inn, Northeast Community Fund, The Judy Mason Thanksgiving Basket Project, Extended Hands / Reasonable Services, Crossing Healthcare Prescription Gardens, Big Blue Backpacks, Mt Zion Food Pantry, AMELCA, Helping Hands Food Pantry, Moundford Food Pantry, Gods Shelter of Love and the Blue Mound Food Pantry.
