October 26 – Programs at the Boys & Girls Club of Decatur are benefiting from a donation from the Comcast Foundation.
Comcast has donated $25,000 to the Club to help improve programs for youth in the community. The money will be used for new technology like computers, printers, cameras, and iPads. Boys & Girls Club Executive Director Bruce Jeffery says they are happy to have Comcast’s support.
“It’s been about 10 years since we have been able to update our computer lab,” Jeffery says. “Through the generosity of the Comcast Foundation, we will be updating and getting new computers for the kids to utilize on a daily basis.”
“Most importantly, we will have one-to-one technology,” Jeffery continues. “We focus on education and so I thought it was important that when kids come here to finish their homework assignments that they can use the same technology they use in the classroom.”
The Club will purchase 15 iPads the kids can use to complete homework at the Club. They are partnering with DPS-61 so that the Club’s iPads will have the same software downloaded as what the kids have in the school district.
The grant money will also be used to establish the My.Future program, which offers exciting projects that help explore music and video/film. Jeffery says that should be rolled out in November.
The updated technology should come in within the next two weeks.
