DECATUR– Decatur’s unemployment rate has checked in at 6.6% for the month of June, down from 8.6% during the same time period last year.
Last month marked the 16th consecutive month that unemployment numbers were down in Illinois over the previous year.
Bloomington again led the state with the lowest unemployment rate, at 4.6%, Champaign-Urbana followed with a 4.9% rate, and the Kenosha metro area unemployment rate was also under 5% at 4.7%.
Despite the decrease in unemployment over the last 12 months, Decatur is also down 200 total jobs from a year ago.
The overall unemployment rate for the state of Illinois was 5.9%, above the national average of 5.5%.
