DECATUR– Heading into Memorial Day weekend, Decatur had just one recorded homicide in 2015, but after the extended weekend, that number more than doubled.
Two people died in the city this weekend in two separate shooting incidents.
The first shooting occurred in the early morning hours on Saturday when police found Paul Robinson on the front porch of a residence in the 700 block of West King Street with multiple gunshot wounds. Robinson later died at Decatur Memorial Hospital from a major hemorrhage.
The second shooting occurred just after midnight at Club Maxey, located just north of downtown Decatur at 1816 N. Water Street. Police say shots were fired into a crowd at the Club during a ‘concert type event’. Five people were wounded and one person, 28 year old Mishari Halbrook, was killed. An autopsy into Halbrook’s death has been scheduled for Tuesday morning.
The Decatur Police Department is continuing to investigate both of these homicides, if you have any tips or information they are urging you to call the Crimestoppers hotline at 423-TIPS.
