Chamber expecting ‘big things’ from Thursday’s business expo

DECATUR– Nearly 80 local businesses have begun setting up their booths inside the Decatur Civic Center in preparation for the annual Chamber Business Expo.

The expo will be held on Thursday from 9 am until 2 pm, preceding the expo will be the annual State of the City address from 7 until 8:30 am, and the Taste of Decatur will be held at lunch time during the expo from 11:30 until 1 pm.

Greater Decatur Chamber of Commerce president Mirinda Rothrock says this year’s expo will include a special message from Mayor Mike McElroy, “The mayor will be speaking, we will also get a chance to hear from new city manager Tim Gleason, and the Economic Development Corporation will be unveiling some new community-wide branding initiative, as well. It will be an exciting day.”

Rothrock says the largest business focused event in Decatur has provided invaluable networking opportunities for Decatur area businesses, “Not every community does something like this where business leaders and community members come together to work together for a common goal. There is a real momentum happening in Decatur and we hope to capitalize on that during the expo.”

In addition to the expo, Decatur Celebration officials are also expected to announce the headlining acts for this year’s festival. That announcement is expected at noon.

On Wednesday night the Chamber will be hosting a VIP preview party and welcome reception for the newest community leaders, such as Tim Gleason, and those who have switched positions, like Ryan McCrady.
