October 10 – The Decatur Park District kicks off Halloween fun this weekend with the start of “Boo at the Zoo” and a glow golf event at Overlook Adventure Park.
Boo at the Zoo offers Scovill Zoo visitors a chance to enjoy treat stations, animal encounters, festive decorations and rides on the Endangered Species Carousel and Fright Night Express.
The first day is Friday from 5:30-8 p.m., with the same weekday hours in effect on October 19, 25, and 26. Saturday and Sunday hours are 3-8 p.m. for each of the next three weekends. Spooky rides begin at 6:30 p.m. each night.
Admission is $5 for patrons of any age who wish to collect treats and $4 for those not collecting treats. Children under 2 who are not collecting treats are free. Train rides are $2.75 (or $2.25 for members) and carousel rides are $2.25 (or $1.75).
Glow golf: The Halloween Glow Golf event is scheduled from 8-10 p.m. Saturday, with a cost of $10 for adults and $7 for children age 4-12. Children in costume pay half price.
Participants will receive an 18-hole round of mini golf, glow accessories and a glow golf ball.
Scareport Run: The Scareport Run the Runway event at Decatur Airport will be held October 20. The one-mile Tot Trot begins at 6:30 p.m., with the 5K and 10K starting at 7 o’clock.
Prizes will be given in all age divisions and awards will be presented for the best costumes. An afterparty will be held at the Gaitros Aviation.
The race will be on a unique flat course which is wheelchair accessible and baby stroller friendly. For security, bikes roller blades, inline skates and pets will not be allowed.
