95Q Artists You Need To Know: Locash

If the phrase “slow and steady wins the race” has ever applied to a country band, it would be Locash. Formerly known as the Locash Cowboys, Chris Lucas and Preston Brust are proof that if you want something bad enough and work hard for it, it can be yours.
The band was formed in 2004 and released their first single to country radio in the spring of 2010. That song didn’t see much success and neither did two subsequent singles released by the same, now defunct, record label. When the label closed, Locash was in search of a new home.
2012 brought a new beginning for the guys as they signed a new record deal with Average Joe’s Entertainment. The duo had been hard at work writing new songs that were to be included on their debut album that would be released in 2013. Locash released three singles under the Average Joe’s label and once again failed to see much success.
While their career as artists was struggling the guys were seeing success with songs they had written that had been recorded by other artists. In 2012 the guys scored their first #1 as songwriters when “You Gonna Fly” went to the top of the chart with Keith Urban.  That same year Tim McGraw took “Truck Yeah” for a ride up the charts and Locash celebrated some success there too.
But it was 2015 that proved to be the breakthrough year for Locash. Early in the year the decision was made to change their name from Locash Cowboys to simply Locash. The guys felt it was symbolic of a fresh start as they had just signed a new record deal with Reviver Records and were preparing to release their new single. The new single “I Love This Life” ended up being a song of destiny. The song hit radio with much praise and steadily climbed the airplay charts for much of the year before peaking at #5 in February of this year. It must be noted that 2015 was also a big year for Preston individually as he got married in September too.
2016 has been off to a great start for the guys too. Locash’s new single “I Know Somebody” is already receiving airplay nationwide and is poised in the Top 50 on the charts after just a few weeks. Chris also just welcomed a new daughter, Remi, in to the world with his wife. She is the second child for the couple. We are sure that the new-found success Locash is experiencing won’t be going away any time soon. Be sure to catch them at Boondocks in Springfield this Saturday as part of the ACM Lifting Lives Concert Series. Get your tickets for the show HERE.
