Supplemental Outreach Initiatives

 

  1. University of Indianapolis – Career Fair

On April 13, 2023, Neuhoff Media President/CEO Mike Hulvey participated in the Career Fair on campus in Indianapolis.  A group of students met directly with Mr. Hulvey and NM-Lafayette OM Joe Lacey., they were informed of the opportunities that were available within the industry in general, at all the Neuhoff facilities specifically related to their field of study. These students included sales, news, sports, announcing, video, and digital related interests. There were forty students participating in the program.  A student was hired by the company directly from this program.

 

  1. Neuhoff Summer Media Camp

This annual program featured 12 students attending the week of June 19h, 2023, at the Danville Area Community College.  The program focused on careers in the media field in general, but with an emphasis on radio, television broadcasting and writing. Members of the Neuhoff staff conduct hands-on training in announcing, interviewing, reporting and public relations. Participates were told of employment opportunities in each of the Neuhoff markets. This was the 27th year of the program, the Summer Media Camp is directly responsible for several current or past staff members across the company.

 

  1. Illinois Broadcasters Association Job Board

Neuhoff Media routinely lists each upper level opening in a job bank or newsletter of a media trade group with a broad-based membership, including participation of women and minorities, such as the Illinois Broadcasters Association.

 

  1. Eastern Illinois University – 2023 Media Internship and Job Fair

This event was held Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois.  Neuhoff Media’s VP Content/Digital Strategy; Michele Mitchell and Digital Specialist, Thomas Gismondi attended the event and spoke to students about job and internship opportunities at Neuhoff Media.   Approximately 100 students attended the event.

 

  1. Broadcast Education Association – Career Program

Neuhoff Media President/CEO, Mike Hulvey participated on a panel discussion with a group of 130 students on April 17thth at the NAB/RAB event in Las Vegas.  These students included Illinois State University, along with University of Indianapolis.  Mr. Hulvey provided information to the group about career development, industry trends and specific opportunities inside Neuhoff.  A student from Illinois State University was highlighted during the presentation who was working part-time with our Bloomington staff.

 

  1. National Association of Broadcasters – Mentor Match-up

On Tuesday, April 18th, Neuhoff Media President/CEO presented to a group of students at the annual conference of the BEA.  This “Mentor Match-Up” allowed a group of 10 students to interact with Mr. Hulvey on a wide range of topics related to a career path in the broadcasting industry. Specific topics related to opportunities in sales, on-air, support roles and radio’s future were all covered in the session.

 

  1. University of Indianapolis – Student Interviews

On May 10th, Vice President Mike Shamus represented Neuhoff Media at the University of Indianapolis, conducting a series of interviews with students from the media school.  Mr. Shamus spent 30 minutes with each student reviewing the academic work, their student projects and discussing their specific desires to gain full-time employment within the industry.  A student who was interviewed in this process did accept a position in a Neuhoff market because of our participation.

 

  1. Senior Leadership Team EEO Training Program

Annually the Neuhoff Leadership Team is provided with training on best practices concerning equal employment opportunities. We also provide training for our staff in the prevention of discrimination, harassment, and other related matters. The video-based training was completed by 11/30/2022.

 

  1. DCLI Internship Program

High School group of students participated from June 5, 2023- July 28, 2023 – These students met regularly with staff, and were involved in broadcasting events, video production, photography, support services and other aspects of broadcast and digital operations. These were paid positions. Students were also informed about part-time and full-time positions within our company.

 

  1. Decatur Christian Schools – Career Tour

Neuhoff Media-Decatur staff participated in an annual series of instructional tour to students from Decatur Christian School. On Thursday, May 11th, 2023, a student group visited the new radio station.  They learned about careers currently available in the broadcast industry and future opportunities related to technology and innovation.
