October 13th, 2019- The 10th annual Sand Creek Trail Race took place over the weekend. The race consisted of fast rolling terrain as runners ran either the 4.4 mile run or the 7.6 mile run throughout the Sand Creek Trails of the Macon County Conservation District. All of the Race profits benefitted Special Operations Warrior Foundation.

October 8th, 2019- Millikin University welcomed Junior and Senior students from across central IL to join them for their 6th annual Tomorrow’s Teacher Conference. The conference allows students to explore Millikin’s Education Department and all the classes and programs one would have to take as an education major. This year’s conference had the largest attendance with 100 students being registered to participate. October 5, 2019 –The second annual pride Fest in downtown Decatur celebrated inclusion, educationarts and advocacy for the LBGTQ community. The event, held in downtown Decatur included an opening ceremony, family friendly activities, agency and retail vendors, a pet pride parade, live music and drag shows.  Organizations such as growing strong sexual assault center and Fifth street renaissance mobile services and PFLAG (P-flag), a group for family advocates for the LGBTQ community were on hand with information and services for attendees. Though Pride month is celebrated in June, event organizers moved the event to October this year so as not to compete with numerous festivals and parades held in June.  Check out the photo gallery!

Coziahr Harley-Davidson Land of Lincoln Honor Flight Fundraiser

October 5th, 2019- Coziahr Harley-Davidson invited Notorious PIG BBQ and Blue Rock Record’s Pizzazz to come out and help raise money for their Land of Lincoln Honor Flight Fundraiser. The fundraiser kicked off at 10am with a Marble Run and continued back in the Coziahr parking lot with food, music, a bake sale, raffles, and more. All proceeds of the event are going towards Land of Lincoln Honor Flight and their efforts to send veterans to their memorials in Washington DC.

October 4, 2019 – The 18th Annual WSOY Community Food Drive blew past it’s goal of 1.5 million pounds to raise an astonishing 1,695,771 million pounds!  The top 5 schools that raised the most food are as follows: 1st Eisenhower High School, 2nd St Teresa High School, 3rd Our Lady of Lourdes, 4th St Pats, 5th Mt Zion Intermediate.  Thank you to the donors, sponsors, volunteers and community that made it happen!

September 29th, 2019- The Mt. Zion Police Department took on the Mt. Zion Fire Department in the First ever Guns vs Hoses Charity Softball Game. The Two teams went head to head in a slow pitch softball game in hopes of raising money for the Jackson Scharf Family. Though the event itself was free, people were encouraged to make donations as well as participate in a 50/50 raffle drawing for the chance to win a special ride home from school in their car of choice a MTZ PD Squad Car or the MTZ FD Fire Truck. All proceeds from the raffle and concessions went back towards the Scharf Family.

September 28th, 2019- Millikin University officially opened the new on-campus home of the Big Blue Baseball program with the dedication of the new Workman Family Baseball Field. The $5.4 million baseball field project was made possible by a generous $4 million contribution from Millikin Emeritus Trustee Gary Workman, a 1965 graduate, his wife, Judy, and their family, as well as generous gifts from Millikin Emeriti Trustees Mark and Bob Staley, Millikin Trustee Tom Harrington ’70 and his wife, Cordia, and the estate of Millikin Emeritus Trustee Frank Tyrolt.
