October 30th, 2019- Ameren Illinois visited the French STEM Academy to talk to students about National Energy Awareness Month. Students were able to spend time with Ameren employees as they learned about energy conservation as well as electric/natural gas safety. Students were also able to take part in an interactive STEM project where they had to build clocks powered by energy from a pumpkin.

October 21st, 2019- DPS Johns Hill’s Art Club volunteered on Merchant St to create a window mural in our community this weekend. Students were able to show off their artistic talent with a spooky Halloween inspired mural. The Mural is located in the window of Del’s Popcorn Shop. A special thanks to the Decatur Area Arts Council, Illinois Arts Council, Gallery 510/Illinois Art Gallery for grants to support this project. October 18th, 2019- The Children’s Museum of Illinois hosted its inaugural “When I Grow Up” event last evening. Kids got to dress up as what they want to be when they grow up and then actually meet real life police officers, artists, engineers, and educators.

October 13th, 2019- The 10th annual Sand Creek Trail Race took place over the weekend. The race consisted of fast rolling terrain as runners ran either the 4.4 mile run or the 7.6 mile run throughout the Sand Creek Trails of the Macon County Conservation District. All of the Race profits benefitted Special Operations Warrior Foundation.

Tomorrow’s Teacher Conference

October 8th, 2019- Millikin University welcomed Junior and Senior students from across central IL to join them for their 6th annual Tomorrow’s Teacher Conference. The conference allows students to explore Millikin’s Education Department and all the classes and programs one would have to take as an education major. This year’s conference had the largest attendance with 100 students being registered to participate.
