Supplemental Outreach Initiatives

Participation in at least four events or programs sponsored by educational institutions relating to career opportunities in broadcasting.

Career Outreach – Richland Community College

Neuhoff Media-Decatur presented a classroom presentation to the media students at Richland Community on September 19th 2017.  VP Brian Byers spoke on the changes in the broadcast space, the evolution of digital platforms and the future opportunities for students with an interest in media. In addition to the college program, Byers spoke at Richland to a group of high school students from the senate district of Chapin Rose.  This was a council of students who represented the district’s schools, Brian represented the state of the industry and company opportunities in this program.

Career Outreach – Millikin University

 Neuhoff Media-Decatur provided an interactive presentation to the communications students of Millikin University on February 20th, 2018.  VP Brian Byers spoke to the students on current, past and future aspects of the broadcast industry.  Brian focused his remarks on the evolution of digital, podcast, on-demand and locally produced content.

Purdue University-Media Ethic Class

Senior Management spoke to Purdue Media Ethic Class on 10/23/2017. All three members of the team gave student a snap shot of a day in the life of a media manager, media sales manager and on-air talent.   Current and future opportunities within the Neuhoff companies was presented to the students. Class consisted of 15 upper level Purdue students

Illinois Broadcasters Association – Media University

Neuhoff Media Vice President, Danielle Outlaw participated at the IBA Media University at Illinois State University on October 6th, 2017.  Speaking at the Bone Student Center on the topic of – “Careers in Media Sales”, Outlaw’s presentation centered on the industry in general, Neuhoff opportunities specifically.

Career Development – SWAG

It “Starts With AG”, is a program developed by VP Development, Brian Byers.  An ag education program in the Decatur Pubic Schools, SWAG will be teaching students about the many aspects of careers in agriculture including communications.  During the initial program launch in spring of 2018, over 250 students have signed up for a program that is gaining national attention.

Establishment of an internship program designed to assist members of the community to acquire skills needed for broadcast employment.

Internship Program

Our internship program is available to high school or college students with a specific interest in broadcasting.  The 2017-18 program featured 3 participants including students from, Illinois State, Millikin and Butler Universities. The students participated in on-air roles, active in promotional support and working directly with the website in video and audio production.  

 

Participation in at least four job fairs by station personnel who have substantial responsibility in making hiring decisions.

Illinois Broadcasters Association – Media University

Eastern Illinois University – Career Fair

Neuhoff Media Vice President, Michele Mitchell, attended the Eastern Illinois University Career Fair on March 22nd, 2018.  Michele represented all Neuhoff markets in speaking with students about positions in sales, on-air, digital, sports and news.  Students were provided information about the company and future opportunities within the company.

Illinois Broadcasters Association Job Board

 Neuhoff Media- Decatur routinely lists each upper-level opening in a job bank or newsletter of a media trade group with a broad-based membership, including participation of women and minorities, such as the Illinois Broadcasters Association.

Participation in other activities designed by the station employment unit reasonably calculated to further the goal of disseminating information as to employment opportunities in broadcasting to job candidates who might otherwise be unaware of such opportunities.

Neuhoff Summer Media Camp

This annual program featured 15 students attending camp the week of June 18th, 2018 at the Danville Area Community College.  The program focused on young people interested in careers in the media field in general, but with an emphasis on radio, television broadcasting and writing. Members of the Neuhoff staff conduct hands on training in announcing, interviewing, reporting and public relations. In its 23rd year, the Summer Media Camp is responsible for a number of current or past staff members.

National Association of Broadcasters – Outreach

Neuhoff Media COO, Michael Hulvey, presented at the NAB national     broadcasters convention on April 10th, 2018.  Hulvey’s presentation on industry recruitment was attended by students including those from University of Indianapolis.  The remarks included information about careers in broadcasting, future opportunities in the industry and company.  The presentation was made on three occasions during the conference.

1. Grillin' in the Garden - June 1

Friday, June 1st, BabyTALK will host Grillin’ in the Garden, their biggest fundraiser of the year.  This Louisiana style Low Country Seafood Boil will be held this year at Progress City on the campus of Richland Community College. 

The down-home culinary evening will include food for seafood and land-lovers alike, with the main courses and desserts served up by Nelson’s Catering.  Door 4 craft beers, signature spiked peach tea and live music from the Jason Gotts Band.  The event is casual and proceeds from Grillin’ in the Garden support BabyTALK’s local programming for at-risk children and the many families with young children in our community who are in need of support.  Tickets are $75 each which includes dinner and 2 drink tickets, seafood boil, cornbread, pulled pork sliders and side dishes.  Call 217-475-2234 to purchase.

For all contests the Company disclaims all liability for any delays, misdelivery, loss, or failure in the delivery of any item sent by mail, courier, express, electronic transmission, or other delivery method. The Company is not responsible for mechanical, technical, electronic, communications, telephone, computer, hardware or software errors, malfunctions or failures of any kind, including: failed, incomplete, garbled or delayed transmission of online entries, traffic congestion on telephone lines, the Internet or at any website or lost or unavailable network connections which may limit an online entrant’s ability to participate in the Contest, and any injury or damage to entrant’s or any other person’s computer related to or resulting from participating in or downloading any information necessary to participate in the Contest. Entry forms in a register-to-win contest must be handwritten. No photocopies or mechanical reproductions of entry forms is permitted.

5. Publicity; Use of Personal Information. By participating, where allowed by law, all participants and winner(s) grant the Company exclusive permission to use their names, characters, photographs, voices, and likenesses in connection with promotion of this and other contests and waive any claims to royalty, right, or remuneration for such use. By participating in the Contest, where allowed by law, participants agree that the Company may disclose personal information obtained from participants in the Contest to third parties and use such information for marketing and other purposes.

6. Release. By participating in the Contest, each participant and winner waives any and all claims of liability against the Company, its employees and agents, the Contest’s sponsors and their respective employees and agents, for any personal injury or loss which may occur from the conduct of, or participation in, the Contest, or from the use of any prize. In order to receive a prize, participants must sign an official waiver form provided by the Company.

7. Taxes. Any valuation of the prize(s) stated above is based on available information provided to the Company, and the value of any prize awarded to a winner may be reported for tax purposes as required by law. Each winner is solely responsible for reporting and paying any and all applicable taxes related to the prize(s) and paying any expenses associated with any prize which are not specifically provided for in the official rules. Each winner must provide the Company with valid identification and a valid taxpayer identification number or social security number before any prize will be awarded. Any person winning over $600 in prizes from the Company will receive an IRS form 1099 at the end of the calendar year and a copy of such form will be filed with the IRS.

8. Conduct and Decisions. By participating in the Contest, participants agree to be bound by the decisions of Company personnel. Persons who violate any rule, gain unfair advantage in participating in the Contest, or obtain winner status using fraudulent means will be disqualified. Unsportsmanlike, disruptive, annoying, harassing or threatening behavior is prohibited. The Company will interpret these rules and resolve any disputes, conflicting claims or ambiguities concerning the rules or the Contest and the Company’s decisions concerning such disputes shall be final. If the conduct or outcome of the Contest is affected by human error, any mechanical malfunctions or failures of any kind, intentional interference or any event beyond the control of the Company, the Company reserves the right to terminate this Contest, or make such other decisions regarding the outcome as the Company deems appropriate. All decisions will be made by the Company and are final. The Company may waive any of these rules in its sole discretion. ANY ATTEMPT BY A CONTESTANT OR ANY OTHER INDIVIDUAL TO DELIBERATELY CIRCUMVENT, DISRUPT OR DAMAGE ORDINARY AND NORMAL OPERATION OF THIS CONTEST, TELEPHONE SYSTEMS OR WEBSITES, OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE CONTEST IS A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, COMPANY RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES FROM ANY SUCH PARTICIPANT TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.

9. Miscellaneous. Each winner must submit proof of eligibility and sign the Company’s release form to claim the prize. The Company may substitute prizes, amend the rules or discontinue the Contest at any time as announced on the Station(s). The Company disclaims any responsibility to notify participants of any aspect related to the conduct of the Contest. For a copy of the rules, or where required by law, a list of winners, visit the business office of the Station during normal business hours or mail a written request with a stamped, self-addressed return envelope to the Station’s address, listed above. All entries become the property of the Company and will not be returned. 10. Compliance with Law. The conduct of the Contest is governed by the applicable laws of the Unites States of America, which take precedence over any rule to the contrary herein. Station(s) shall follow the applicable laws for conducting contests, including notice to the state attorney general or consumer affairs office, posting of a prize bond, furnishing lists of winners, running specific on-air disclaimers, providing specific written information about the Contest, etc. as required by local and state law.
