December 5th, 2019 – Every year, the HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital lights up the star that sits atop the hospital during the holiday season. The lighted star was originally purchased for the hospital by the late Doctor Rocky White. The lights are lit to honor and memorialize the loved ones of hospital colleagues and community members who have passed away.

November 27th, 2019 – Central A&M is trying to win their first IHSA Football State Title since 1997 this Friday, when they take on Lena-Winslow (Lee-Na Wins-Low) in the 1A Championship Game. Both teams are undefeated on the season, and the Raiders know it will be a tough task to beat the Panthers.

November 22nd, 2019 – The IHSA Semifinals kick off on Saturday, with two local teams still fighting for a chance to play on Black Friday in DeKalb. Central A&M hits the road for the first time in the playoffs, taking on Athens at 2pm while St Teresa hosts Nashville with a 1pm kickoff. November 21st, 2019 – Macon County has been issued a tentative property assessment equalization factor of 1. The equalization factor is determined annually for each county by comparing the sales price of individual properties sold over the past three years to the assessed value placed on those properties by the county supervisor of assessments/county assessor.

Senator Manar Honored for Ag Education Work

November 21st, 2019 – State Senator Andy Manar was honored today with the Jim Guilinger Legislative Award by the Illinois Leadership Council for Agricultural Education for his efforts to expand and promote agricultural education in Illinois schools. 

“Agriculture is a driving force of our state’s economy,” said Manar. “ It’s imperative that we do everything we can to strengthen and expand agricultural education and expose our students to the many promising careers offered in this industry”  

ILCAE is an advocacy group focused on legislation, funding, and promotion of agricultural education and serves as an advisory council for the initiatives of the Agricultural Education line item.

PHOTOS: Judy Mason Thanksgiving Basket Basket Packing

November 16th, 2019 – Over 300 volunteer packed the old Sears building at the Hickory Point Mall to help pack boxes for the Judy Mason Thanksgiving Basket Project. Volunteers helped pack the boxes with canned vegetables and non-perishable items in preparing for the baskets to be delivered the week of Thanksgiving. Decatur resident Nick Walsh brought his family out to volunteer to give back to the community and show his kids the importance of community service.

There will be another volunteer event next Saturday from 9-10am and next Sunday from 3-5pm. You can also help financially by going to feed5for25.com to help cover the cost of the hams that will go into each of the boxes.
