March 31, 2020 – The United Way is giving another opportunity for students to get a sack lunch during the school shutdown.

The United Way of Decatur and Mid Illinois will offer sack lunches at pavilions in several Decatur parks. Lunches will be available by walk-up:

  • Mondays and Thursdays from 1-3pm at Hess Park, Lions Park, Oak Grove Park, and Grant Park;
  • Wednesdays and Sundays from 1-3pm at Torrence Park, Mueller Park, Jasper Park, and Monroe Park.

The meals are available for any student from any school district.  The sack lunches are prepared by the Beach House and the effort is a partnership between the City of Decatur, Decatur Police, The United Way of Decatur and Mid Illinois, The Decatur Park District and The Howard G. Buffett Foundation.

For DPS locations:

  • Meals will be distributed ONLY on Tuesday and Friday. Three days’ worth of meals will be provided on Tuesdays and two days’ worth of meals on Fridays. This means DPS will continue to provide families with meals for five days each week, and this will still include breakfast and lunch for each day’s meals.
  • Meals will continue to be provided from 8:00 – 10:00 a.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays at EHS, MHS, SDMS, and Hope Academy.
  • In addition to those current sites, Grab and Go meal distribution will be added at four additional sites: French STEM Academy, Muffley Elementary, Parsons Elementary, and South Shores Elementary from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays.
