Melverta Wilkins

Melverta Wilkins is a lifelong resident of Decatur, Illinois, she is the wife of 35 years to Tony A. Wilkins and mother of grown children Brittoni Wilkins, (Decatur, Illinois) and Marques Wilkins (Houston, TX).  Tony and Melverta, have three grandchildren Cayden, Cailey, and Caleb all of Decatur.

Melverta Wilkins loves her community, this love led her to start a nonprofit 501C3 organization Sista Girls and Friends, Inc. in the Decatur, Illinois -Macon County area.  This organization targets at risk women and girls providing training, mentoring, comradery, core building, self-esteem building, life skills through Empowerment!  These skills and talents help build positive families and structure, decrease poverty and add value to the lives of one another and a positive community of excellence.  SGAF will impact the community one women one girl at a time.

Sista Girls and Friends staple program for women is Sista Circle, a forum for sharing life experiences, self- esteem building, life skills training, and speaker series. The core program for young ladies’ grade 7-12 is Prestige. Our goals are to train and stimulate women and girls in career building, work/life balance, health, arts and culture, provide life coaching and help cultivate skills and talents in a positive manner.  The programs offered at Sista Girls and Friends have been operational since October 2013.

Ms. Wilkins and her husband serves as spiritual leaders at the House of Miracles Pentecostal church.  They love the amazing family environment love and friendship God has blessed there. Melverta Wilkins also serves as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and is a charter member of the Decatur chapter, Chi Xi Omega.  Melverta Wilkins is the current president of the chapter and has lead the chapter to impact amazing things in our community.

Ms. Wilkins is currently employed by Caterpillar Inc. as a Process Change Engineer. She has been employee at Caterpillar for 19 years and has earned a Six Sigma Black Belt.  Melverta has obtained an Associates degree in Social Work from Richland Community College and BS in Organizational Leadership from Greenville College. She received her MBA from the University of St. Francis – Joliet with a certification in Supply Chain Management as well as a Master of Science in Training and Development.
