Dr. Laura Zimmerman is Assistant Professor of Biology at Millikin University. Dr. Zimmerman’s research uses turtles to examine the effects of the environment, age, and other factors on their immune responses. She received a M.S. and Ph.D. in biology from Illinois State University. Dr. Zimmerman is also an alum of Millikin University, having received her degree with a major in biology and minor in chemistry. While at Millikin, she was a member of the 2005 national championship women’s basketball team. Dr. Zimmerman is also a member of the Macon County Board and the Macon County Board of Health. In 2019, Dr. Zimmerman became chair of the Macon County Democratic Central Committee, becoming the first woman of any political party to serve in that role in Macon County. She lives in Decatur with her husband John and dog Max and serves as an assistant basketball coach at St. Teresa High School.
