July 19, 2019 – State transportation officials are warning drivers to look out for buckling pavement as temperatures increase. The Illinois Department of Transportation said the hottest week of the year increases the potential for pavement failures. Recent buckling has been reported along route 51 as well as along Interstates 55 and 72. Road buckling occurs when heat and humidity cause the road to expand says IDOT spokesperson Guy Tridgell
To report pavement buckling, blowouts or other uneven driving surfaces, call police or IDOT at 800-452-4368.
