July 10th, 2019 – The first half of 2019 has been record setting for the State of Illinois. Statewide average precipitation from January to June in Illinois totaled just over 28 inches, with is 8 inches above the long term average. Brian Kerschner with the State Climatologist’s office says the state has been above average in precipitation since December of 2018.
“June marked the 7 month where Illinois has had above average precipitation,” says Kershner. “It was also the 8th consecutive month that none of the state was listen in “drought” or “abnormally dry” by the National Dought Monitor.”‘
The previous record of 27.9 inches for the first six month of the year was set in 2013.
