January 11 – With heavy snowfall likely over the next few days, the City of Decatur has issued alerts regarding emergency snow routes and winter no-parking conditions.
Currently, all normal traffic and parking regulations remain in effect. But the anticipated weather could necessitate declaration of a snow emergency.
During the snow emergency, parking or leaving a vehicle would be banned on Emergency Snow Routes identified by red and white signs. Parking would also be prohibited on designated Winter No-Parking streets, also identified by signs.
Any vehicle parked on these streets would need to be removed by the time specified.
Municipal Services Manager Daniel Mendenhall said the city has 12 snow routes with priorities. Plow drivers will work on the priority streets until pavement is clear. Once the priority streets are clear, plows will address the neighborhoods.
The City has a snow and ice control plan that can be found on its website here. Motorists are encouraged to stay home if possible; anyone who must travel should plan ahead and allow for extra time.
