Army’s Monken Wins Lombardi Award

January 8 – Army football coach and Millikin University product Jeff Monken has won the Vince Lombardi College Football Coach of the Year Award.

Monken guided the Black Knights to an 11-2 record to set a program record for wins, climbing to No. 22 in the AP poll. Army won its final nine games, including victories over Air Force and Navy as well as a 70-14 rout of Houston in the Armed Forces Bowl.

The Lombardi award is focused on leadership skills and is based on more than just winning football games, such as doing the most with the least, overcoming adversity, creating a successful environment, and playing by the rules with integrity, honor, and respect. It is presented as part of the Lombardi Honors Program.

Monken, who became the first Army coach with three bowl wins, also won the George Munger Collegiate Coach of the Year Award.
