Small Business Owner Planning Trip After Winning Raffle

December 10 – Kim Fields has not seen her brother who lives in Europe in more than five years, but she plans on changing that in the near future.

Fields, who owns the Decatur’s Papa Murphy’s franchise at Mound Center, plans to use part of her prize from winning the Decatur Celebration’s Royal Raffle for a trip to England.

“I’m so excited; I wasn’t expecting this at all,” Fields said Monday afternoon after she was presented with a check for $5,175 at the pizza store.

The Royal Raffle kicked off the Celebration’s year-long fundraising campaign by board members and King and Queen candidates.

“I’m so proud to be part of an organization that means so much to our community and gives back every year,” said Celebration producer and director Lori Sturgill.

Tom Brinkoetter, managing broker and owner of raffle sponsor Brinkoetter and Associates, made the ceremonial presentation to Fields.

“We at Brinkoetter’s are very proud and honored to be long-standing supporters of the Decatur Celebration,” he said.

Fields, who was born in Zimbabwe, figured her raffle entry was merely a contribution and would not result in any prize.

“I just thought I was doing something cool and supporting the Celebration, which brings so much positivity to our community,” she said.
