September 12 – A grant of $50,000 from ADM Cares will help the United Way of Decatur and Mid-Illinois assist Crossing Healthcare with its prescription produce program.
“It was an awesome opportunity for us to partner with ADM on some sustainable produce for the community,” said United Way executive director Debbie Bogle.
The United Way applied for the grant in the spring and a check presentation was held Wednesday. Bogle said Crossing helps its clients incorporate produce into their diets to address diabetes and other health issues.
“They not only get the fresh fruits and vegetables but they learn how to cook those fruits and vegetables and they get tips,” she said. “So, it’s not just a ‘here’s some food, figure out how to use it.’ They really work with them to incorporate this into a lifestyle for them.”
