1. Arcola Broom Corn Festival – Sept. 7-9
The Arcola Broom Corn Festival rounded out our #Hot25 and carried us into the #Charlie10! Check out the video!
2. A Taste of History – Sept. 15
An evening of cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at the Millikin Homestead, Staley Museum, Oglesby Mansion, and Hieronymus Mueller Museum! Check out the video!
3. Arts in Central Park – Sept. 14-16
Decatur Illinois hosts one of Central Illinois’ finest juried art shows on the third weekend of September, featuring approximately 80 exhibiting artists with a variety of artwork for sale including jewelry, pottery, metal sculptures, blown glass, paintings, and more.
4. The D-Town Throwdown – Sept. 22-23
The D-Town Throwdown is a 2-day, team-based fitness competition, comprised of teams of 3 males and 3 females, held at CrossFit Enhance in Decatur, Illinois. The competition features Rx, Scaled, and Masters divisions, and is renowned as one of the highest quality fitness competitions in the Midwest. Even if you aren’t a participant, it’s a thrill to watch!
5. The Robin Vogel Memorial Run – Sept. 29
The Robin Vogel 5K run/walk is being held to honor and remember Officer Robin Vogel. Robin was a Decatur, IL Police Officer who was killed in the line of duty. Robin’s patrol vehicle was struck by a drunk driver on 10/1/05. Two days later on 10/3/05 she succumbed to her injuries suffered in the accident. The money raised from this event will go towards a scholarship in Robins name that will be given to a High School senior in the Decatur/Macon County area.
6. Apple Pork Festival in Clinton – Sept.29-30
An estimated 80,000 visitors attend the festival each year. Stroll the C.H. Moore Homestead DeWitt County Museum grounds, the home and heart of the Apple ’n Pork Festival. This unique harvest festival features more than 25 food stands offering numerous old-fashioned food items; a juried art show; 19th century craft demonstrations and sales; tours of the historical C.H. Moore Mansion; an antique tractor show; live musical entertainment; meal grinding, rope-making, woodcarving and blacksmith demonstrations; Civil War living history camp; tomahawk throwing; pony rides; farm museum displays; children’s miniature train rides; a large flea market with over 250 dealers; and much more.
7. The 17th Annual WSOY Community Food Drive – Oct. 5
Congrats the the entire community for helping us raise over 1.5 Million Pounds of food!
8. Whiskers and Tails – Oct 13
Presented by the Decatur Macon County Animal Shelter Foundation to benefit the Macon County Animal Control and Care Center. An evening of cocktails, dinner, dancing and one of the biggest and best live and silent auctions of the year! The theme this year is year of the dog!
9. Diamonds and Desserts – Oct 25
Girl Scouts of Central Illinois proudly presents the 12th Diamonds & Desserts on Thursday, October 25, 2018, 5:30 p.m. at the Decatur Country Club. This signature event will once again feature the Flora Gems Sweet Surprise Wall, a Girl Scout cookie-inspired desserts competition among local chefs, and recognition of Mayor Julie Wolfe Moore as the 2018 Diamond Honoree. 10. Boo at the Zoo- Neuhoff Night! – Oct 26
Celebrate a safe Halloween with fun for the entire family during Neuhoff Media’s night at Boo at the Zoo! Friday October 26th from 5 to 8pm. The most popular night of Boo at the Zoo! Hundreds of Jack-o’-lanterns will guide you through the spooky treat stations. Take a ride on the Fright Night Express and the Endangered Species Carousel.
