September 8 – Heavy rain and Flash Flood Warnings Friday have resulted in the cancellation and the rescheduling of a couple of events in the Decatur area this weekend.
Rainfall totals of 3 to 5 inches in some places have caused the annual Fido Scurry in Fairview Park Saturday to be cancelled. Shirley Stanley with the Decatur-Macon County Animal Shelter Foundation says the event will not be re-scheduled for this year. Stanley says the Foundation will be contacting those who have pre-registered.
Stanley also says the dog swim “Wags and Waves” at the Fairview Aquatic Center has been moved to Sunday, September 9th. Three separate swim times will be available, 11am – Noon, 12:15 – 1:15 and 1:30 – 2:30. The cost is $5 per dog.
Also cancelled for this weekend is the Special Olympics 2018 Outdoor Sports Festival that was to be held at Rotary Park and the Hickory Point Golf Club. The 2 day event featuring over 650 Special Olympians from around the state in golf and softball was the final event of 9 statewide events for 2018. Officials with Special Olympics Illinois say it will not be rescheduled for this year.
