Prediabetes Workshop Set for Saturday

Prediabetes Workshop Set for Saturday

September 3 – The first of three workshops on prediabetes scheduled over the coming months in Clinton will be held Saturday.

The free University of Illinois Extension class “Wake Up Call – Eating to Avoid Diabetes” will be offered for free from 10-11 a.m. at Vespasian Warner Public Library, 310 N. Quincy St.

According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, more than one in three Illinois adults have prediabetes. High blood glucose levels raise the risk of heart disease and stroke as well as type-2 diabetes.

The class will teach participants about small steps to take to lower the risk of diabetes, from losing a small amount of weight to choosing healthier foods that can prevent prediabetes from progressing.

Those wanting to attend Saturday’s program should register by Thursday. Contact Marie at 217-935-5174 or by email at maltby@vwarner.org.

Future classes will be offered from 10-11 a.m. October 4 at the Clinton YMCA (call Rennie at 217-935-8307 by October 2) and from 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. November 7 at the DeWitt County Friendship Center (contact Paula at 217-935-9411 or dcfc4u@frontier.com by November 5).
