August 30 – Roger Baldwin of Clinton High School is among the 10 finalists announced this week for the 2019 Illinois Teacher of the Year.
“Our Teacher of the Year finalists are heroes,” State Superintendent of Education Tony Smith said in a media release. “They represent the best in the profession and the very best of Illinois.”
Baldwin teaches chemistry, physics, physical science and theater/drama at Clinton. The Illinois State Board of Education will name the winner during the “Those Who Excel” banquet on October 20 in Normal.
A selection committee featuring administrators, teachers, service and support personnel, and former Teacher of the Year winners considered 214 nominations in determining the finalists.
“These educators make each student feel known and cared for,” said Smith. “At a time when some would harden our schools, these educators build the relationships that make our communities whole and strong.”
The winner will represent Illinois in the Council of Chief State School Officers’ National Teacher of the Year Program.
