UPDATE: Arrest Made in Fatal Oakland Avenue Stabbing

August 10 – A Decatur man has been charged with murder after a 24-year-old man was stabbed to death Thursday night in the 100 block of Oakland Avenue.

Macon County Chief Deputy Coroner Dee Coventry identified the victim as Cody Drew. He died at 12:28 a.m. Friday in the Decatur Memorial Hospital trauma room as a result of multiple stab wounds.

Sgt. Steven Carroll of the Decatur Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division announced that Ray M. James, 48, was arrested at 12:30 p.m. and booked into the Macon County Jail, charged with 1st Degree Murder.

Decatur Police were called to intersection of Oakland and West Main Street at approximately 11:30 p.m. Thursday and located Drew. The Street Crimes and Criminal Investigations divisions worked through the night and day interviewing witnesses, collecting evidence and serving a search warrant.

Autopsy results are pending and police and coroner’s investigations are ongoing. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Decatur Police Department.
