Former Employees File Suit Against Scott, Macon County

July 11 – A federal Lawsuit has been filed again against Macon County and State’s Attorney Jay Scott.

In the lawsuit filed Tuesday, Robyn Lewis and Leah Cone allege they were terminated in 2016 in retaliation for reporting the employees inside the State’s Attorney’s Office were working on Scott’s re-election campaign during regular office hours. Officials in Macon County say the employees were terminated due to budget cuts. Both are asking for re-instatement to their positions with back pay, or to receive compensation to make up for time lost due to the wrongful termination.

In 2017, attorney Stephanie Wong had been appointed as special prosecutor to investigate the State’s Attorney for alleged wrongdoing in the office which included the charges currently filed against, but also using county vehicles for personal transportation. In the end, Wong declined to file criminal charges against Scott, but in the grand jury’s report did call the work environment in the state’s attorney’s office “toxic” and “threatening”.
