June 21 – A popular personalized gift shop that has called Merchant Street its home for eight years has expanded into a second location.
Giggles on Merchant Street has branched out and partnered up with the Children’s Museum of Illinois to offer their personalized gifts to Museum goers. ‘Giggles at the Museum’ opened for business at the beginning of June, and was officially welcomed to the community Tuesday by the Greater Decatur Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber and Decatur City officials helped cut the ribbon on the Museum’s new gift shop.
“The experience has been wonderful so far,” Giggles owner Chrissy Spurlock says. “We have had great support from the community and current customers we have downtown. It’s nice to have this second location because if you aren’t able to get downtown, if you live on the east side, or if you just happen to be at the Museum, it’s a great place to stop in and grab a gift.”
Spurlock says she was approached by Museum staff about possibly expanding and found it would be good for both sides. With Museum programs heating up this summer, Children’s Museum Board of Directors President Betsy Tanner says Giggles is the perfect addition.
“There is a lot going on right now and this just adds to all of the excitement,” Tanner says. “I’ve already been in there and had things personalized in between dropping my daughter off and picking her up. This has just been great so far.”
Tanner says the transition on their end was easy – Spurlock and her crew moved in almost overnight. With personalized gifts being one of their top sellers, Spurlock says they think Giggles at the Museum will complete a family’s experience when they visit.
“If you forget your gift and you know you are coming to the Museum for a party, all you have to do is come a half hour early and you have your gift,” she says.
Giggles at the Museum summer hours are Monday-Friday: 10-4:30 p.m., Saturday: 10-4:30 p.m., and Sundays: 1-4:30 p.m. You can find out more about what Giggles offers by clicking here.
