DECATUR—If you want something done, sometimes you have to go out and do it yourself.
Dani Feller and her husband Jason took that approach this winter when they built Black Iron Coffee at 2890 S. Mt. Zion Rd.
Feller said they were inspired to open Black Iron during a lengthy road trip during the summer, “We drove all over the country and into Canada and during our trip we talked about doing this and when we got back we started to put the plan together.”
Feller says the name Black Iron was symbolic following their trip, as well, “We kept thinking of different names and my husband (Jason) threw out ‘Black Iron’ and it kind of stuck. Iron is a symbolic image for America and we went from there.”
Opening up last week, Feller says the shop offers traditional coffee, lattes, iced drinks, tea, and a variety of food like soup and baked goods, all of which, are home made, “We have nothing that comes from a box here, I get up every morning and come in and bake all of our baked goods, the food is homemade, the coffee is ground and brewed by request, we do it all.”
Feller says they are eyeing an expansion into other areas of food like wraps and sandwiches in the coming weeks.
Black Iron Coffee is located at 2890 S. Mt. Zion Road and is open Monday-Friday 6 am until 5 pm, and on Saturday from 6 am until noon.
