DECATUR—Do you remember what you wanted to be when you were 13? Students from across central Illinois are getting an opportunity to explore perspective career choices at the Partners in Education 20th annual 8th grade career fair.
Over 400 students from across Macon County and Central Illinois will make their way through Richland Community College this week to participate in the annual event with over 40 career presentations to be explored.
“This gives them an opportunity to ask questions, to explore a career that they may be interested in,” PIE director Renee Stivers said. “We want to put them on a path to interest before they get into high school so when they do move on, they can have more of a focus during their 4 years in high school.”
Prior to the career fair, students were given a question and answer sheet by their teachers to narrow down their interests, and were then guided through the individual careers depending on their answers.
Students were put in seven ‘career clusters’ and each cluster had six individual career choices in them and students got an opportunity to spend roughly 15 minutes with each presenter.
