Man arrested in Decatur indicted on a charge of enticement of a minor

SPRINGFIELD – A Springfield man, arrested in Decatur in late July, has been indicted on a charge of enticement of a minor.

Public Information Officer Sharon Paul says 58-year-old Jeffrey Parkhurst of the 1100 block of Reynolds St. entered his plea of not guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge Eric I. Long.

The indictment alleges that on July 27th, 2015 Parkhurst used the Internet and a cell phone to persuade, induce, and entice an individual whom he believed to be under the age of 18 to engage in illegal sexual activity.

Officials say Parkhurst was arrested in Decatur on July 27th and initially charged in the Macon County state court.  If convicted, the statutory penalty for enticement of a minor is 10 years to life in prison plus a fine of up to $250,000.

Paul says the trial for Parkhurst has been scheduled for November 24, 2015.
