DU QUOIN– Former Governor Pat Quinn’s top lieutenant is looking to get back into state politics.
Former Lt. Governor Sheila Simon announced on Labor Day her intentions to run for State Senate in the 58th District of Illinois.
The 58th district, which runs along the south-west border of the state, includes the counties of Jackson, Monroe, Randolph, and Jefferson. The current Senator in that district, Republican David Luechtefeld announced this weekend that he will not run for reelection.
In her most recent bid for office, Simon lost to then-comptroller Judy Baar Topinka, for the office of State Comptroller in 2014.
Simon was Quinn’s Lieutenant Governor from 2011 until 2015.
