DECATUR– Brettwood Village shoppers will soon have a new spot to satisfy their sweet tooth.
The City of Decatur confirmed on Monday that a Dunkin Donuts shop is being put in at 3016 N. Water Street. The building was formerly a Dairy Queen and US Cellular store and is located adjacent to Kroger and the Shell gas station.
“This is one of the most requested restaurants that we have had,” Economic Development Officer Patrick Hoban said. “When we did our listening tours last year, Dunkin Donuts kept coming up as an eatery that people wanted.”
Hoban says the remodeling of the store has been underway for several weeks and they are hoping to have the store open by the end of the year, and possible summer, “Our hope is to have this done as soon as we can. Brettwood Village is a high traffic area and having another shopping option there would be good for the city.”
The Decatur store is part of a group of seven store agreements throughout central Illinois; other stores will be going up in Champaign, Bartlett, and Elgin.
“We are excited that Dunkin’ Donuts has chosen to add a location in Decatur to add to the city’s continued growth of restaurant and retail options for our residents,” Mayor Mike McElroy said. “I see this as yet another sign of a continuing trend of companies investing in the City of Decatur both in the areas of transportation, manufacturing, healthcare, and other areas but also in new stores, restaurants and other amenities that improve the local quality of life.”
